An example of tone in Migration is shown in the quote, “You abandon your life, town, family, and friends, and you go out into the unknown in search of another life.” This quote demonstrates tone in a way that reflects the expressions on the men’s faces in the picture, and what they have to face. A second example of a literary device, is figurative language. An example of figurative language in the Red Umbrella, is when Lucy says, “My heart thumped loudly in my ears.” this is an example of onomatopoeia. Another example of figurative language, is in Migration when the author says, “As the only window to the future.” This is an example of onomatopoeia, because this quote refers to someone jumping through a window, but since there really isn’t a window to see the future this has to be an example onomatopoeia. “You’re sending us away, aren’t you? Like some of the other kids. How can you do that?”’ This quote shows an example of dialogue, because two characters are having a conversation with each other. Which in this case, Migration, doesn’t have any dialogue, because it’s shows imagery instead. A second example is imagery. Imagery is found in Migration. I know this because the image in Migration, makes up the almost the entire article, it also expresses the emotion of men on the train. Even though Red Umbrella, can paint a picture it doesn't physically have a picture anywhere in the story, therefore imagery cannot describe Red Umbrella. A third difference is plot. Plot is shown throughout the story of Red Umbrella. The plot/central idea in the story Red Umbrella, is two siblings must immigrate from Cuba to the US in order to be safe, from the revolution happening in Cuba. As a result of Migration not portraying plot in the article, plot cannot describe
