Words are anything but powerless language helps the audience to understand and create meaning. When you are giving a speech there is always a message or main idea that you are trying to get across. The main idea usually has different ideas to back up the main idea. These supporting ideas are what motivates, intrigues, or even persuades the audience. Here is where the importance of appealing to Logos, Ethos and Pathos comes into play. This was one of the most important lessons I gained throughout this past semester is using Logos; appealing to your audience through idea Ethos; appealing to your audience by giving reliable information and Pathos; appealing to the audience´s emotions. In my first speech I tried to do this, but it didn 't play out too well because I didn 't give that support to my main ideas. As time went on I tried to think more about how to appeal to the audience. First of my vocal delivery improved tremendously. In my first few speeches I used a few vocal fillers, and lacked variety. But with practice I was able to minimize those fillers by recording my speech and listening to it over and over. While I practiced I tried to use variety in my voice. For example raising my voice or including longer pauses when I am saying something important. In my first few speeches I had trouble enunciating certain words or sentences that were important to the speech. This could be another reason why I struggled with connecting to the audience. My last speech has a lot of enunciation which kept the audience on their toes. I was also happy to see some improvement in the category of physical delivery. I lacked a lot of gestures in the beginning of the semester. Towards the end of the semester I started to use emblems and illustrators. I would use illustrators when I listed examples, and I used emblems when they fit in. I thought I had good posture throughout all my speeches. Eventually I fixed my habit of looking up when I couldn 't remember something. I believe improving in the delivery category improved my speeches
