This paper will be focusing on spirituality in various aspects. It will also express the meaning of spirituality and religion to the author as well as addressing the client’s spirituality. It will further explain what is specific about the client’s spirituality, how it relates to the physical assessment, how it will influence his or her care and plan, and what nursing concerns he or she portrays. Hindus refuse the intake of “medication that are produced using animals, and refrain from eating certain vegetables, like onion or garlic” (Ehman, 2012, p. 2). Therefore, the nurse needs to inquire to the physician prescribing medication of the limitations that the client presents, in order to care for the patient in a holistic and respectful way.
On the other hand, if the author’s client falls ill, the nurse should be prepared for the client to request a pastor to visit her. This presents a nursing concern as the nurse would need to consult with the hospital’s pastor. Furthermore, the nurse displays providing care in a holistic manner.
As for designing a teaching care plan, the author would need to provide all the resources available to respect and fulfill her spiritual needs before informing the client of medical actions that need to be implemented. Once the client feels adequately cared for spiritually, the person will be more inclined to trust the nurse and have no misconceptions about confidentiality. As it result, it is important to assess for cultural factors in order to provide the best care possible suited for the patient during the hospital stay and with the occurrence of discharge.
