As a group we did positive activities like raising money for charities, collecting toys for the less fortune around Christmas, and doing food drives. Being a part of youth group was a great choice I made in order for me to give back to those who aren’t as lucky as I was growing up. It helped me want to make other lives better while making myself feel great about the way I tried living my own. Approximately three years ago during the summer my family and I took a trip to go visit over there, where I was then exposed to other religious practices still regarding my religion. In Costa Rica there is a very famous Cathedral where people come to pray for numerous hours and where mass is held a lot longer than what I am costumed to. Going to mass in another country and hearing it in a different language was an interesting experience and made me see things in a different perspective. In Costa Rica during the special time period known as lent, those who are very religious take this time period very serious. My cousins who most of them are very religious on my mother’s side are not allowed to go out, party, listen to music, hang out with friends etc. for about a week or so in order to show God that they are giving up something like he once did for all of us. Since I was over there for vacation, I experienced this for about a day or so before leaving to go visit my other family. It was weird how the whole community was very peaceful and quite to show their respect to God. Religion helps bring groups of people together in a society who practice the same belief and helps shape us into who we are
