The freedom we have today is due to a prominent event in our history, the passing of the Civil Rights Law of 1964. This regulation, the Civil Rights Law of 1964, banned discrimination against race, color, religion, sex, and national origin, and later, prejudice against disabled people as well.
Actions such as the abolishment of slavery was a point that increased the need for equal rights. Although all men were now allowed to vote, several Southern states added poll taxes, literacy tests, and several other unnecessary regulations, preventing recently freed men to vote, or at least created excessive hardship upon them. Later on actual legislations were added or clarified between the time of 1964 and 1972. The Americans with Disabilities Act was an addition to the 14th Amendment with some claiming it to be one of the most important acts passed since the Civil Rights Law of 1964. The Age Discrimination Act of 1967 was also added to ensure fair treatment to those both young and old.
This law affects our country today by allowing freedom & encouraging equality within one another as people. It makes our country a state of equal opportunity helping us build a better future for individuals.
This law affects me because I am a woman, I am a Muslim, a minority in religion in the United States, I was born in America, but both my parents are legal immigrants, and I am also a minority considering the fact that I am under 18. As of now, no changes come to mind as I feel that all people are included in this particular act.
The Civil Rights Law of 1964 was a great political movement which affected millions of people both now and then.
