She rejects linear ideas of composition and rather follows this idea of a recursive process. This idea of going back to parts of your writing to then take you forward into the rest of you composing process. This idea can be done differently by all writers but it is usually in some way apart of a writers composing process. This action can be down when the writer rereads parts already written, refers back to “key words or item called up by the topic” and finally refers back to this “felt sense” (142, Perl). The Felt sense, are “feelings or non-verbalized perceptions that surround the words, or to what the words already present evoke in the writer (142, Perl). Perl describes this process of referring back to feelings that your ideas express or the “felt sense” as retrospective structuring or translating your feelings into words. This process of translating feelings into words creates this idea of projective structuring, in which one adequately translates and express their feelings and idea that can be understood by the audience. Perl is demonstrating overall the circular representation of a composing process. Metacognition is being able to realize and understand one’s though process. Through the use of metacognition, you can see that Nancy Sommers, Peter Elbow, and Sondra Perl all incorporate this idea some way or another. With time and experience, I believe that one becomes more aware of the way they think. There for in just this semester I have seen this growth that has in return allowed me to grow as a writer. With even this composing process of analyzing these three composition scholar to there for use as a way to identify our own composing process has opened my eyes up to ideas of writing I was once unaware of. The articles and this semester have opened my awareness and metacognition in ways that not only benefited my writing but in other aspects of life. Being aware of your ideas can allow you to grow and express yourself in a more beneficial and organized way. Within this semester I believe that I have finally grasped my thought process in terms of utilizing it to become an even greater
