Dan Ferber, an award winning writer, describes how antibiotics “... make farm animals grow slightly faster on less feed… But antibiotics spur some bacteria to develop resistance to the drug, and those bugs, or the resistance genes they harbor, can make their way into meat and then the human gut” (3). With this in mind, it is clear that applying antibiotics on non-sick animals highly affects our health on a regular basis. Currently, one cannot consume eggs, or any kind of meat, without running the risk of getting salmonella. The Food and Drug administration estimated that “48 million people experience food-borne illness annually, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 people die as a result” and added that most of these illnesses resulted from bacterial contamination (1). The impact these illnesses are having in our society could stop, it just takes companies to start following regulations such as the WHO’s that demands farm factories to use antibiotics exclusively to cure sick
