Hypothesis One: Correlations Test
A sample of n = 63 subjects was obtained with scores on Communication Apprehension (M = 3.00, SD = 1.54) and Academic Performance (M = 2.13, SD = .96). It was hypothesized that Communication Apprehension would correlate negatively with Academic Performance. …show more content…
It was hypothesized that Communication Apprehension would correlate negatively with Affective Learning. The correlation coefficient r = -.082 (p = .293) indicates that the test scores are not significantly correlated. Although not significantly correlated, the hypothesis was partially supported as it correctly predicted the negative relationship between the two variables. The results suggest that higher degrees of communication apprehension amongst college students are not correlated with improved academic performance. These results also suggest that not enough evidence is available to claim the null hypothesis is false at the 95% confidence …show more content…
1992). After this first year, communication apprehensive students were able to find coping mechanisms that allowed them to manage their communication while still excelling in the classroom. Similar studies found that early in their academic careers, students with high communication apprehension learn to compensate for their perceived inadequacies in oral communication by developing heightened decoding skills (Comadena & Prusank, 1988). Therefore, these students tend to display enhanced reading, writing, and listening abilities. Findings from studies such as these provide insight as to why this study obtained the results that it
