I had a very interesting time creating the doing history timeline. The hardest part of this assignment was developing ideas to research. I decided to take up the challenge of researching black women in education. This topic is very important to me because I am a young black women and education has always been important to me. I wanted to learn about the people who have made it possible for me to achieve all my dreams.…
Today’s society has made it impossible for women, African American women especially to love the skin they’re in. Either you’re praised for having the flattest stomachs, and the biggest butts in the media world; or you’re frowned upon for it in the “white business world.” African American women have been known to be have rather wide hips and plumped bottoms. In today’s age all of our celebrity role models have had some work done. It seems like you have to enlarge your body parts to flourish in the business of whatever you’re in media wise.…
Being a student in college is not an easy thing to do. You are constantly busy completing activities such as school work, socializing with friends, and connecting with new students and professors. Not only do you have to focus on these tasks, you must think about extra-curricular activities and experience that you will need in your career. This could be an internship at an institution or a cooperative educational program. With all these tasks on your plate, it is beneficial to have people that support you and an overall good school environment.…
At a time the Negros were outcast and social outsiders. If there was not and educational base for the Negroes at that time, then I would wonder what they were actually learning. The transmission of greater knowledge of the other races were more widespread, or well-regarded more highly than those of the African. He claimed that the schools that African American students attended had old-fashioned equipment that needed to be replaced by more advanced technology. I also believed there should be a shift in the type of instruction that African Americans were given, and also in the educational approaches of those providing the instruction.…
The significant purpose of this study was to investigate the challenges African American women experience as administrators in colleges and universities in higher education, and the strategies they use to cope with these conflicts. The key factors that guided this study on African American women in administrators in higher education focused on these particular areas (a) balancing career (b) family commitment (c) hiring and promotion (d) isolation & tokenism (e) racism and sexism. These were the key factors that guided this study. There are three components for this literature review. First, I would like to provide a description on how I conducted this interview.…
After the publication of TCRTE, a number of educational scholars began to publish work in CRTE, thus expanding the relatively new theoretical framework. Tate (1997) published an extensive overview of CRT by recounting the major theoretical foundations of CRT and ascertaining the propositions that are pertinent to educational research and policy. Similarly, Taylor (1999) prepared a brief introduction of CRT describing the legal scholars who founded CRT, their major contributions, and how to apply CRT to education. Contributing to CRTE, Solrzano & Yosso (2002) specified how to use critical race as a methodological research design centered on storytelling and experiential knowledge of black students. Furthermore, Parker & Lynn (2002) utilized storytelling and narratives to study racism through a critical race lens.…

Lucy Session who received a literary degree in 1850 and Mary Jane Patterson who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1862. According to Bennefield (1999), Fanny Jackson Coppin was the first African American women to become a principal of the Institute for Colored Youth in Philadelphia. She is the first to be employed at an institution for higher learning. The primary entry into higher education was not easy for African American women. However, despite the opposition African American women pushed and pressed forward toward higher learning.…
How can we get kids to want to learn and enjoy education rather than just focusing on grades? Higher engagement levels earlier in schools shows that they will be more motivated after leaving high school. Kids these days do not like school. They do not like sitting in a classroom for an hour. Also they do not like boring speeches or lessons.…
Individuality vs. Conformity in Schools Are we trained mice in a maze, or individuals? Pubic school’s mission is to teach children to conform to society’s norms and also to help kids reach their full individual potential. Becoming a productive, law abiding citizen is important in maintaining order and general respect for one another, but reaching one’s full potential as an individual is a more important and potentially more beneficial goal. To reach full potential, students should be able to use their own curiosity to determine their educational path. So much time is wasted sitting through classes that don’t interest everybody, learning how to pencil in bubbles, and testing as a group that the individual student’s natural curiosity is forgotten.…
Many authors, such as Morgan Saraya, Thamar Theodore, and Siji Jabbar, recognize the importance of studying the self-perceptions of African American women. They explore the reasons why African American women have low confidence in their appearance. The authors tied this problem to mass media and members within the African American community. Through their efforts, African American women have gained more confidence in themselves since the early 2000s, but the presence of Eurocentric beauty standards still impact African American’s mental and physical health. When African American women chemically straighten their hair, lighten their skin, or feel negative about their skin tone, it shows the negative effects of Eurocentric beauty on African American…
Getting a college education for me is very important. There are many people who yearn to go to college or further their education. I am very fortunate. I am the first in my family to go to college and hopefully first to graduate. Having a degree to do what I love would be a big goal reached.…
Personal Essay Education is perhaps the most important service a country can provide to its people. Education leads to development, innovation, and growth; and also opens countless doors for people. Having educated people allows for the country to run in its most productive state, because its citizens are running in their own most productive state.…
The main purpose of education is for personal growth, for self enhancement, to obtain occupational skills, to develop social and moral responsibilities and to become culturally literate. For every aspect of life one needs to be educated in order to master the art of what they do, hence education is life. As many educational theorists such as Dewey, Vygotsky, Bruner and Piaget stated in their theories, I believe that students learn best by constructing their own knowledge and by being actively involved in the learning process. These are based on the theories known as constructivism and progressivism.…
I believe that the purpose of education is to prepare students for higher education so they can succeed later in life. To help students achieve this, it is necessary to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to make it further with their education and achieve their goals. According to Oakes and Lipton (2003), education insures equality of opportunity. In my opinion every child has the ability to become anything they want to be when they grow up, and it takes a good teacher to help a student mold himself or herself into that character that they want to be. Education allows and guides children to develop their passions and critical thinking.…
