The ligament that was stretched abnormally never returns to its original shape. This causes the ankle to be less stable. It also loses effective communication with your brain making it less coordinated. Also, months, in some cases years your foot develops a state of chronic stiffness. There is currently no scientific proof that concussions cause long term problems. However, having multiple concussions may contribute to a mild cognitive impairment that affects memory and thinking skills. An ACL tear may damage the surrounding cartilage that can worsen over time.
