The purpose of an ethics committee is to assist in resolving ethical issues that affect patients within the health care institution. The members of the committee should be selected based on their concerns for the welfare of the patients and their interest in ethical issues in the healthcare institution. As such, most of the members of the ethics committee should be doctors, nurses and other health care providers. These committees may also have social workers, chaplains, legal representatives or community representatives.
The members of the ethics committee should have knowledge of the relevant code of ethics, knowledge of healthcare law and ethical assessment skills. They should be diverse
