My version of the script changes the story by showing instead that rebelling against the powerful does not end well and that the powerful will find ways of squashing rebellion. I chose to change the story in this way in order to show that the dangers of giving someone this much power might be irreversible and that resistance could be futile in the end. In this way I make the dangers and threats of the ideas presented in the movie more immediate and more terrifying. My version of the script pushes the idea that once this kind of surveillance power is in place, it will already be too late to take it away.
The Truman Show explores the ideas of entertainment, the media, and god-like power in an effective way. The changes I made to the script were to change the story in a way that presents a more pessimistic view of these things. My version of the script intends to show that the media can’t be trusted even in matters of life and death, that we are too attached to media consumption, and that because of this attachment we might allow it to become irreversibly
