The American Revolution (1765-1783) began to take place. Members of the American Colonial Society turned away the authority of the British and the way that they were being taxed without representation. During this time period the colonists soon began to protest. One of the two reasons for the protest was The Stamp Act which took place in 1765. This was an act that imposed a tax on the colonies and required that newspapers, notes, envelopes, among other things to be produced in London with a special stamp. The reason for this tax was to help pay for the troops stationed in North America after the British victory. The second Act was The Tea Act that had been put into place by the British. The Idea was to lower the large surplus of tea held by the British East India Company. One of the protests was the Boston Tea Party in 1773. In which the “demonstrators” destroyed an entire shipment of tea that had been sent in by the East India Company. The British followed with Coercive Acts on Massachusetts in 1774 until the tea was paid for. Soon after in late 1774 the Patriots decided that they were going to set up their own alternative Government, to better retaliate their resistance efforts against the British. Not everyone was keen on the idea of this new alternative Government. “Loyalist” which were other colonist preferred to remain loyal to the British
