Innovative weaponry had a large impact on the Revolutionary War. The diversity and effectiveness of a weapon is what determines its practicality in the battlefield. A weapon is a tool designed to inflict bodily harm or physical damage. During the Revolutionary War, weapons had to be improved to insure victory. There were a variety of weapons used by the British and the Americans in the Revolutionary War. The improvement of weapons in the Revolutionary War was important, including the Charleville flintlock Musket, the Brown Bess, the invention of the rifling, and the Kentucky Rifle. Muskets do not have rifling inside the barrels. The first form of rifling was straight grooves, but during the Revolutionary War the Continental Army had warehouses to make muskets(Editor, The). In one of these warehouses was a German gunsmith named Ezekiel Baker, who was creating the Jaeger rifle with a rifled barrel (Editor, The). His style of rifling was unlike the first form, this style was in a spiral form to produce a spin of the musket ball to create improved accuracy. Therefore, this new rifle had superior accuracy over the previous smooth bore muskets("Revolutionary War Weapons."). The name “rifle” was formulated by the invention of rifling. The Brown Bess and the Kentucky Rifle were two very important rifles to a developing country. The invention of rifling allowed the Americans to incorporate their guerilla warfare at greater distances. Sometimes innovation is more important than firepower to succeed.
