How did religion and government relate to each other in early modern societies? They related the same way as they do in some of today’s society. Not as much though. In early societies religion was government, or played a big role in government. Christian Europe is a good example of how times have changed to make religion and government mutually exclusive. Islam is a good example of how times have not changed some much as to exclude government from religion. There is yet to be a government that has found a perfect balance between the two. Both of these examples come to show just how religion and government relates to one another for the good, bad and the ugly.
