One of the relationships I admire in the bible is the bond between Ruth and Naomi. In the book of Ruth, the author explains how Ruth was willing to sacrifice everything she once knew to follow Naomi back to her hometown Judah. She did not want to leave Naomi alone. Ruth 1:16-17 (New International Version) expresses her feelings towards Naomi, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. First, the genuine love Ruth had for Naomi made their relationship unique. Most daughter-in-law’s do not necessarily care for their mother-in-law, but Ruth had an unconditional love for Naomi and displays that love in verse sixteen and seventeen. She treated Naomi as if she were her own mother. Secondly, Ruth was committed to Naomi. In addition, she was willing to give up her family and everything she once knew to seek the Lord’s face with Naomi. Ruth stated in verse 17, her commitment would not waver even if the Lord would bring death upon her. Lastly, Ruth was loyal to Naomi. She made sure if she was blessed Naomi was blessed. Every blessing that she received from Boaz she made sure Naomi reaped from the harvest as well. If she ate, she made sure she fed Naomi as well.
I did not recognize and negative aspects in their relationship. The entire story was about love, sacrifice, honor and displayed faith in God.
One thing we can learn about relationship building through the bible is love. Love is a key component that is expressed throughout the entire bible. No matter if we are reading the story of Naomi and Ruth, Abraham and Isaac or Mary and Joseph. There is a pattern of unconditional love for one another, also a lesson for each one of us on how we should love one another. Furthermore, because of their love for God, the Lord used these men and women
