I chose this question because I believe that if the adolescent population truly understand the impact of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to their health and how it can overall affect their life, they would think twice before engaging in risky sexual behaviors and take all the necessary precautions to prevent from acquiring them. The previous studies and research have focused on the factors that increase the risks of adolescents in acquiring STIs and the strategies in preventing them. • Can STIs affect your chance of having kids someday?
• If your partner informs you that he or she has STI, do you think you will need treatment too?
• Can I die from complications as a result of an STI?
The responses to the questions will serve as an assessment on the level of understanding on STIs by these group subjects. An analysis of the results of the research will help modify future sex education programs and initiatives. By determining what are the most common misconceptions on STIs among adolescents, future sex education programs can highlight and emphasize the corrections on these misconceptions. Furthermore, responses to the questions may help shed the light on why STI rates continue to rise and persist among adolescents despite the sex education campaigns and programs. References
