What is an Individual Eduaction Plan (IEP)?
• An IEP is a specified plan of action for each exceptional student. It identifies which resources and services are required and how they will be provided.
Communication for parents and teachers
• An IEP is designed to communicate the accommodation process to parents, while allowing teachers to monitor the student’s progress.
IEP Regulatory Committee
• An IEP is mandatory once a student has been identified as exceptional (Regulation 181/98 of the IPRC).
• The Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC) is responsible for ensuring that a student’s IEP is well suited and follows all regulations.

Special education program
• Every exceptional student is given a student education program which includes their current achievement level, annual goals, and learning expectations.
Accommodation for provincial assessments
• Students with an IEP are encouraged to display their knowledge and skills while being guaranteed the right to participate in the assessment process.
• Accommodations are ensured for exceptional students in terms of setting and scheduling adjustments, aids or equipment, or type of assessment given.
• Accommodations must comply with the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).
Transition plan
• If a student is over the age of 14, their IEP must include elements for transition into post-secondary education.
• This transition plan will include the student’s goals, requirements, and plans for action.
