Due to his basic reading skills falling on a third grade level, he is unable to understand and read grade level material independently. Additionally, he struggles with getting his ideas down in written form, which affects his organization, spelling, and proper mechanics. Because his disability affects his performance in class, he avoids talking in class discussions or to students about classwork. He minimally participates in group activities, which affects his collaborative and comprehensive learning skills.
