Unfortunately, it doesn’t. As Lucynell and Tom take their honeymoon trip, something happens. They go and get food at a The Hot Spot (which is a restaurant), because Tom sees that Lucynell is tired and maybe needed something to eat. So, they go into The Hot Spot together and sit down. Instead of having a conversation while waiting for a waiter, Lucynell passes out and falls asleep with her head on the table. Tom chooses to let Lucynell sleep for a bit and orders her food. Somewhere in between the car ride and going into The Hot Spot, Tom seems to be having second thoughts on their marriage. After ordering Lucynell’s food and realizing that she’s in a deep sleep, Tom tells the waiter “Give it to her when she wakes up” (pg. 9). He then proceeds to leave The Hot Spot and drive away, leaving Lucynell there alone. This is a little bit confusing, as Tom seemed to find peace after marrying Lucynell. The mystery question here is why did he leave her there? Was it because he wasn’t ready for marriage? It’s possible. But it’s also possible that Tom had been unhappy for so long that being happy made him scared, anxious, and uncomfortable within his mind. When Lucynell and Tom went into the restaurant, the weather was nice. The sky was still cloudless and blue. As Tom’s driving away, leaving Lucynell at The Hot Spot alone, the weather takes a turn for the worst. In the sky, “…a storm was preparing very slowly…” (pg. 9). The weather was perfect when Tom was with Lucynell. Subsequently, when Tom leaves Lucynell, the weather starts to become awful. After the weather goes from gorgeous to ugly, Tom goes back to being his unhappy
