My family is able to buy healthy food notwithstanding many people around us don't have that luxury An organization called Grow Harrisburg is looking to change this this situation. I will help them accomplish their goals, implementing the GIS skills I learned at the Geospatial STEM Academy. This project will consist of helping Grow Harrisburg and my local farmers market named Augusta Locally Grown to determine how many people they serve using data already collected by the organization to perform a density analysis. The project will also include using the ArcGIS Collector app to pinpoint all the raised bed projects Augusta Locally Grown has done in the area. Surprisingly, this data collection will be very similar to what my team did for Atlanta Beltline and Trees Atlanta at the Academy. To make data collection easier, the neighborhood of Harrisburg will be divided up into 5 sectors (Central, Southside, Northside, Eastside, Westside). The boundaries of the sectors will be marked to minimize the likelihood of different teams plotting the same beds. Teams of 4 to 7 people will go into the sectors to plot the approximate locations of all raised bed gardens using the ArcGIS app. The app will be programmed to include the feature tabs of Age of Garden and Sector. The attributes tab will consist of Plant Health, Presence of Weeds, Soil Health, and Average lb. of Vegetables per month. Preferably, the monthly yield of the vegetables will be determined by asking the owner of the raised bed. In addition, on a different map, an analysis of all of the greenfields and empty lots in the neighborhood will ascertain which are best suited for a community urban farm. All data and maps will be compiled into PowerPoint presentations, which will be shown at an event organized by Grow Harrisburg in mid-2016.
