I hold an open attitude toward the cultural differences and respect different values. Before college, I lived in Mainland China and developed my value system based on the eastern culture. Later, I moved to Hong Kong for college. Because of the British colonialism, Hong Kong developed a unique identity with a mixture of eastern culture and western culture. The four years I spent there not only shaped my worldviews but also enhanced my capability of dealing with culture diversity. I can imagine that the culture difference would definitely be a barrier if I work with the children in Philadelphia. In my opinion, the key to address this problem is my attitude as a counselor. On one hand, I need to admit the existence of the difference and respect my clients’ view even though their view might not be consistent with my own cultural values. On the other hand, I need to get myself educated about the local culture in order to have a deeper understanding of my clients and provide cultural-sensitive services for them. In the multi-cultural counseling, my own self-reflection is of tremendous importance as well. The reflection can help me identify what the difference is, uncover own feelings and remind the counselor to be open-minded and respectful toward the
