Sexually transmitted disease is among the most common infectious diseases in the world. “They are transmitted by infections that are passed from one person to another during any sexual contact.” (Parenthood) According to WebMD, “more than 65 million Americans have an incurable STD.” (WebMD) It is most common with the ages between 15 and 24. (WebMD) Having unprotected sex, sexual contact with multiple partners, or anyone forced to have sexual intercourse are some of the causes of the spread of STDs.
Unprotected sex is the use of having intercourse without a latex condom or taking any form on birth control for women. Most teens do not think about the consequences of unprotected sex, as it can bring serious danger to their health, and cause big changes in their lives. Being in a crowd where your surroundings are of people being part of sexual activities, puts pressure on others. When you have sex with someone, you are having sex with everyone else he or she has ever had sex with in the past. If only one of them has had an STD, you may become infected as well. It is a disease that keeps on spreading. “The more sexual partners you have in your lifetime, the more likely you are to have a sex partner who has any form of an STD.” (Woods, S. G.) Not having sex at all, or abstinence, is the best way to prevent getting an infection. If you are sexually active, it is best to have only one sexual partner. Before getting involved with another person, know their sex history and have them tested. Better yet, having the both partners tested can build a better trust among them. Having intercourse with only one partner, can help reduce the risk of spreading the disease. Reducing the number of sex partners can decrease your risk for STDs.
