The Shining vs. The Shining Some people believed nothing can scare you if you do not do any conscience. However, a lot of things can scare people in real life. Monster is one of them. Monster, different people have different definitions; also have different perspectives for the type of monsters because people feel scared of different things. Some people think ghost is monster. Other people think ugly people, zombies or vampires are monsters. It also makes audiences feel Jack act monstrously since film started. When elevator is oozing more and more crimson blood, the music makes audiences feel more breathless. The typewriter makes monotonous and edgier sound, Jack plays squash’s echo, these seem to be a witness to Jack mental break down every day to become madness. Audiences can feel Jack’s change more vividly and directly. Novels and movies are two different art forms. Stanley uses smooth transition of shots, extreme long-shot with the use of light and shadow to exaggerate macabre atmosphere. The filmmaker uses contrasting color to heighten the atmosphere, enhanced realism. As a horror novel based on changes in the film "The Shining", it is not like other horror films in the past, as the screen dark, cold and wet, but is rather distinct colours, elegant style. Human four most fear factors are death, darkness, loneliness, and helplessness. Stanley use rich colours pictures to highlight these factors in the film. For example, after the mountain is covered with snow white, lush hedges, golden ballroom, pink walls, red sofa, or even silver utensils, etc., are all shades of life, the film is based on a completely clear about the style in mind terror. It demonstrates Jack monstrous actions cause by external (ghost in Overlook, societal view, and life pressure) issues. In Stanley’s The Shining, the colours are re-created new meanings. It adds a sense of authenticity and reality of the film. So, the film's colours are more aesthetic value than real colours, rich in artistic meaning, more and more intense aesthetic appeal and emotional impact.
