"Happy birthday Audette," they chirped. Audette glanced over the top of her book with a stern eyebrow raised. The book she was a quarter of the way through reading was entitled 'Thee Arte off Asking Qwestions '. "What are you three up to?" she challenged them, half-practicing.
"Nothing," they replied in defensive union, "it’s just that we have a present for you. We found something we think you will want to see." "What?" Audette enquired cautiously.
"A body," one said. "Huh?"
"A dead one, it’s out in the marshes," another disclosed. …show more content…
"No," she shook her head and lifted her book up again.
"Seriously, Audette, trust us, we 'll show you,” the eldest plied their offer further, “and if you come with us we have a surprise for your birthday too.” Her interest peaked again, "Hmm?"
"We stole a bucket of ale from the cellar and hid it out in the overgrowth," it was revealed.
"Now that I can believe,” she stated, “okay then, in that case you can have my attention for a while." Out in the marshes the four orphans sat drinking ale. Audette was already tipsy and giggling at their anecdotes, thinking maybe the boys weren’t so bad after all. Despite the years of torment she gave them, she thought maybe they were thinking the same too. Sometimes she was just as bad, even worse; but it was their own entire fault for provoking her. "So where is this body?" she demanded curiously.
"Its further out, we 'll have to drink up first,” the eldest commanded, “I don’t want to be lugging that thing through marshes". "Come on Audette, drink more. You’re such a girl," one jeered at
