A scientist may be unaware of and may not realize when an animal is undergoing severe pain and/or distress (Rowan). Along with the suffering that the animals must undergo, most animals are either euthanized after the experiment or die of intentional causes during the experiment. There is always the constant fear that effects brought on by the researchers themselves, could kill the animal before the actual experiment does (Rowan). People to this day believe that animal testing is exceptionally justifiable because humans are superior to animals and therefore should not have the same rights as humans do, for this reason it is considered acceptable to experiment on them (Hajar). Animal testing advocates will consistently state that animal experiments are highly “regulated” and follow the laws that are in place to protect animals from wrongful mistreatment. Although, about 95% of the animals used as testing material, are not covered by any act or law (Latham). With that being said, we as humans consider to be morally correct, and as a whole, we have determined that take someone against their will or the wrongful treatment of someone is not within the law or morally correct. Yet, we have done this exact thing to animals, as they cannot speak for themselves and give consent to such testing that is forced upon them everyday. People that are for animal testing will also state that animals essentially …show more content…
People that support animal testing may say that there is absolutely no other alternative to testing on a system. Fortunately, there are a number of alternatives to be used in this case. Replacing animals with non-animal models and modern developed technology can greatly reduce the number of animals used in testing and can can bring many various benefits as well. The advancement of modern medical technology in today’s society gives us no reason to continue using animals as testing material. For instance, the term biotechnology, is currently allowing test tubes to be substituted for animals in experimentation (Rowan). Replacing animals with this type of technology can give scientists a better understanding of animals and humans, and it is a more rational system opposed to the traditional system of testing. The housing and staffing are only a fraction of all of the costs that could be significantly reduced if fewer, or no, animal tests were carried out and
