Athletics permit students to work together and talk to each other. Students learn cooperation and teamwork skills (“Benefits”). When kids work together for a long period of time they gain each others trust. As a result, they build a relationship together. They will have each others backs when needed. Playing sports provides students with opportunities to develop skills in communication and function properly as leaders and players (Duggan). Many sports need conditioning and endurance which get kids outside. Going outside allows them to use up their abundance of energy. Multiple sports are outdoor sports. The fresh air is good for their immune system and keeps them healthy (Kent-teach). When kids get outside for sports they get more energy out than just sitting outside or riding a bike. Students are more excited to stay healthy and fit.
Sports give an incentive for students to come to school and get good grades. When students join a team the team holds each other accountable for each other's grades and behavior. When a student or athlete misses school once or multiple times they may not be able to participate in the sport or event. Research shows that kids and children that play sports, do better in academics. They can apply the same principles of dedication and hard work learned through sports participation to their studies
