After reading “The Giver”, I do not believe that it should be banned. Not only does banning this novel limit a person’s freedom, it also limits a persons right to learn more. “The Giver” addressed topics that most adults chose to ignore when speaking to young adolescents. Topics such as sex and euthanasia because these topics for some are considered a “touchy subject”. Those adults who consider these topics to be “touchy” believe that young adults are not mature enough to understand what they are reading. I respect those adults’ opinions, however, “The Giver” should not be banned, but instead parents should regulate what their children read. If those parents are so concerned about what their children are exposed to, then they should take their own initiative to censor their children. Censoring an entire community is simply just a violation of others rights. For example, due to religious beliefs, Hindu’s do not eat beef. Just because they do not eat beef does not mean that they can ban the sales of beef. Instead, they restrain themselves from consumption of beef, because banning such sales would be a violation of others liberty to do as they please. This goes to say that although some parents wish for their children not to read “The Giver”, they should not to petition for censorship of the
