We are a sick country because we are a country full of anger which was caused by the apartheid era that, according to Jansen, “stripped us of our dignity and so much of our humanity” (2010: ). The aim of this essay is to prove that Jansen was correct in making that statements by providing reason as to why we are a sick country, three reasons for South Africans’ anger, solutions to the problems, and what implementations need to be in place before a dialogue.

People were killed in brutal ways because of their involvement in the fight for freedom and the families of the victims were forced to listen to the explicit confessions of the perpetrators in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Such confessions hindered the mourning process of the victims’ loved
