I will first explain how they are similar. The first reason they are similar, is because in 1619, when the first Africans arrived in Virginia, they were treated equally as an indentured servant. They also had freedom, just as an indentured servant, but they had to be Christian in order to have freedom. The second reason they are similar, is because both indentured servitude, and slavery were very important to the English. The third reason they are similar, is because starting out you had to be younger than 60 to be an indentured servant, or slave. That was the “law” at the time.
