The Vietnamese suffered, overworking in poor conditions growing crops and agriculture, and were taxed heavily for the French to reap the benefits. The French neglected the people and development of Vietnam, leaving them poor and undeveloped, and were deprived from having a national identity. [4][5] The Americans had different problems with Britain, they were not bullied and were peaceful with the British government until the implementation of the Stamp Act in 1765. It was an unfairness to the Americans financially that brought strong protests and things escalated, eventually leading to the Revolutionary War.
