Behaviour is how a person can conduct himself or herself. Attitudes and behaviours can both influence each other due to values, beliefs and actions.
In the beginning of the film, the students in their second detention showed to have a very negative attitude towards ballroom dancing. This attitude then influenced their behaviour as they refused to ballroom dance.
An example of behaviours influencing attitudes is when the students begin to dance, their attitude towards ballroom dancing changes. They begin to enjoy it and therefore their attitude is positive due to the influence of performing the dances.
Functions of attitudes help enhance or protect someone’s self image via utilitarian, ego defensive, knowledge and value self-expressive functions.
Utilitarian refers to whether something serves some type of utility with maximum rewards and minimum punishments. The students are told that there is a reward for the dance competition of $5000. This interests them and therefore they compete in the contest as it serves some …show more content…

Attitude change is when attitudes are persuaded or simply changed often due to social influence. There are two routes to attitude change through persuasion. Central route is being persuaded by the content of the information or the arguments made.
Peripheral route is being persuaded by other factors and not the content. Someone may be persuaded due to the attractiveness of a speaker. For example, when Pierre dances with Morgan in the detention room, the students are persuaded into learning the dances as Morgan and Pierre perform a sexy tango dance. The appearance of Morgan and the way they moved their bodies together as an image, is able to peripheral route the way the students think about ballroom dancing and change their minds.
Attitude formation is how attitudes can be formed through a direct, indirect and/or learning factor.
