The Chief elder is the leader of the community, who is elected every 10 years. He is the person who assigns the 11’s their assignments. The Committee Of Elders, Headed by the Chief Elder, make important decisions about matters concerning the community. They observe children during school hours as well as during recreation and volunteer hours in order to give them their appropriate assignments that fit them. They also observe the citizens in the community to match them with their appropriate spouses and assign them to children. We know from reading the book so far that The Elders have secrets to why they restore order and why there community is like this. Jonas’s community isn't what it seems to be, there are many secrets to why life is so dull. Citizens are different in the community to ours in real life, and there must be a good reason. What are the elders hiding?
The Giver uses precise language for the better good of things, to restore order and understand other people directly. This is definitely used as a tool, but why have such sameness? The elders want to create a perfect community, but nothing is perfect. Everything is different, and everyone is different. Citizens should be special in their own way for their differences, not be punished or released.
