186.22 PC ( CA penal code) is a law that targets gang members. It states, “ any person who actively participates in any criminal street gangs with knowledge that its members engage or are in engaged in a pattern of criminal activity, promotes, furthers, or assists in any felonious conducts shall be punishable in county jail….”. As part of the gang culture, they obtain their own set of norms, values, and beliefs. On the other hand, those who violate them will be punished. Some of these can be gang members obeying their own gang rules of conduct. In addition, the way they portray themselves, who they associate themselves with, different use of jargon,and their territorial boundaries are some examples that inhibit their subculture or society, and how that influences them to crime. There is relevance and correlation between gang crimes and the social disorganization theory. With that being said, it is because many of these gangs are located in the lower socioeconomic parts of cities and lack social control, so many people seek control or attention else where that leads them to gangs.
