Social inclusion can be defined as a series of positive actions to achieve equality of access to goods and services, to assist all individuals participate in their community, sport and society, to encourage the contribution of all persons to social, sport and cultural life and to be aware of, and to challenge, all forms of discrimination. Effective social inclusion results in each individual having an equal opportunity to make decisions that affect their quality of life within community and recreational activities. It is the process whereby certain groups, communities or individuals are pushed to the edge of society and sporting activities, therefore cannot participate fully because of poverty, underdeveloped life-skills or inadequate education. As a result people may be excluded from some, but not necessarily all, aspects of daily living which are considered normal for most of society. For example members of the community can be excluded from; production, consumption, decision making and can also lack in skills, education, resources, poor housing and unemployment. Social Inclusion Awareness
Social Inclusion Awareness is extremely important in the field of sport as it’s about including all members of the community to get involved and allow them have a sense of belonging. Being aware of Social Inclusion in sport, is always important as it send positivity towards members of the community as it tries to decrease health issues through physical activity, improves and increases employment and volunteering, increases sport and skill in education and training for all participations and helps fight against discrimination and violence within sport. These types of problem can occur on the pitch with players, off the pitch with managers or supporter or outside of the grounds. In my Opinion, I think from a young area mentors need to apply a rule against violence and discrimination to try decrease the problem at senior level of sports. However, at government level, all of the following are there to help in the awareness of social inclusion; Minister for children, Social Inclusion Steering Group , Anti-Poverty Learning Network, County/City Development Boards, The RAPID Programme, Anti-Poverty work in the health services, National Economic and Social Forum and Social Inclusion Forum. (Department of Social and Family Affairs 2009) According to the EU problems like these arise during international player’s transfers, exploitation of underage players, doping, money-laundering through sport and security during major sporting event, therefore, World Cup and All-Ireland football and hurling finals.
