In essence, Adam Shepard viewed the American Dream as an opportunity to do one’s personal best in life. In Abowitz’s survey, students had a more realistic view towards the American dream. Their views were a lot more reasonable regarding what they want to achieve. The American Dream, for these students, is to be able to achieve their goals by working hard and doing this with no help. These students don’t want to have to depend on family or connections to be able to succeed in life but they do want to be able to achieve their goals on their own. Keene also mentions that coming from high or disadvantaged social classes does not affect one from pursuing one’s goals. What does affect it is how much one really want to achieve and work for achieving one’s dream, whatever it is one’s American Dream is. Being more educated can open more doors for everyone and it will help one be more economic and socially stable. Not only that but education is something that will just get one a little step closer to motivate them to achieve their American Dream. Whether one’s dream is to be good economically and be on trend or have just what is necessary to live, health and
