Social psychology is defined as the branch of psychology that studies the effect of social variables on individuals behavior, attitudes, perceptions, and motives. It also studies group and intergroup phenomena. Many people have to deal with social situations that may make them feel uncomfortable or change the way one may view himself in the world. In Redirect, by Timothy D. Wilson, the ideas of the impact of social situations on individuals is shown throughout most of the book, and focuses on how to cope with social influences and the way they can make one feel about himself. A lot of movies, commercials, and series portray teens or even adults having a good time due to the consumption of alcohol and drugs. This makes the viewers, mostly teens, think that they will have a batter time if they are also under the influence of these drugs. These types of media put the idea of using drugs into teens minds and cause them to make subconscious decisions that than impact their life in the short-term and long-term. When children are growing up, it is important to be careful of what types of media they are exposed to. It is also important not to use example of people who have died or gone to prison due to drugs, because this has been found not to work. Many colored students due fairly worse because they think that their teachers expect them to do poorly, so they might as well not even try. This is a common issue and happens all around the world, and most likely at every school. Many students have had problems where their teachers carry a bias due to stereotypes and make them feel as if they will not be able to succeed in the class. If this stereotype was eliminated and students of all races were given an equal chance to prove themselves in the classroom, all races would be on the same level of education. This shows how stereotypes are a bigger problem than we had imagined and how they are more than just ideas people think to be
