I learned through my group discussions that a good leader should be able to listen to his group. That is, the leader should be able to communicate effectively, give the group the feedbacks they need to know, be punctual and on time for group meetings as well as respecting boundaries. Similarly, a leader should be able to provide emotional stimulations by creating activities for the group when necessary and care for them my offering support and praise when possible.
I am so excited that during the class discussions about leaders’ qualities and functions, I found two weaknesses that could hinder my practice as a good social worker. One of my weaknesses is excessive empathy for clients. Sometimes I feel so much empathy for people and spend so much time with them trying to helping their situations instead of focusing on my work.
