Whereas, American culture tends to put more focus on the individual. This is the dilemma I’ve been living in. At school, I am the outspoken, open-minded, and independent girl. At home, I am the quiet, graceful, and focused girl. Both cultures have been important socializing influences that define me, and trying to find a balance between the two is difficult but not impossible. I am grateful that my parents have accepted the fact that I am an American Indian. I will be outspoken when necessary but I can be very quiet too. At home, they will always be able teach me about the Indian culture, traditions, and values. At school, I will be learning about the American culture, traditions, and values. The environment at home and the environment at school are two different worlds. I will always keep learning new things and trying to fit into both
