As society changes and transforms cohabitation is becoming more common and marriage less common. Personally, cohabitation is an important aspect before I could even consider marriage, since I’d have to know if I was compatible with another person. While there’s evidence that cohabiting before marriage has higher divorce rates, I question the statistics. Marriage is important in the catholic religion and it’s frowned upon for couples in the Catholic Church to even consider divorce. This outlook was pushed on me growing up, and I hope to have a successful marriage and family in the future because of its importance not just to me but also to the Catholic Church. Individual interactions is an example of microsociology, and can have a slight effect on my perception of marriage. Going back to the idea of cohabiting before marriage, that individual interaction I’d have with that significant other is important in determining whether or not we are compatible. Other examples would include interactions with families and also friends to help establish strong connections that could lead into a stronger marriage in the future.
