Spain is a country on Europe’s Iberian Peninsula. It has 17 independently governed regions with vast differences in their geography and culture. The Kingdom of Spain, as it is officially known, is the second largest country in Eastern Europe. Spain covers roughly 85 percent of the Iberian Peninsula with a vast area of almost 506 thousand kilometers. Spain is home to some of the World’s most famous Palaces and Museums. In this paper, the history, religion, culture, geography, and military variables will be discussed to facilitate an understanding on how each of these elements shape the country today.

About 16.6 million people in Spain are actively in the work force; 61 percent of that are in services; 5.9 percent are in agriculture; and 11.7 percent are in construction. 17.9 percent are in industry. They do, however, hold a high literacy rate of 98 percent. One of Spain’s most infamous past times is bull fighting. “This bloody sport developed as an evolution of ancient Roman gladiator games, pitting human matadors against bulls” (David Thyberg, Leaf Group para 3). Which was then adopted by older generations as key element is Spanish culture. Only to later be protested against by younger generations and animal rights groups however, Bull fighting remains a pivotal part of Spanish culture. To this day you can still go to one of the beautiful towns in Spain and watch a bull fight. Another of Spain’s biggest cultural habits is its illustrious nightlife. Spain’s nightlife is world renowned for its flair and energy. Unlike the bars and clubs in the United States that are open from around 10 and close roughly around 2-3a.m and are solely for those who are above the age of 21. Bars and nightclubs stay open until nearly dawn and even offer refuge to energetic youths to looking to dance and drink the night away. Its military has fought for centuries for both political power and social unjust on its very own soil. Whether it be in be the 16th century under the Holy Roman emperor Charles V or in 1808 against Joseph Bonaparte. The country of Spain and its people are always willing to go to war and fight for what they believe in. Its total military strength is less than 173,000 with 50,000 of that being reserves. Though Spain’s military isn’t as robust as most countries its size they are always able to get the job done when called upon by its country or its countries
