29 February 2016 spartacus What is a hero? What characteristics does a hero possess? Why is spartacus a hero?
Someone that is a hero is someone that is that is not afraid to fight for good and what they believe in. they aren't afraid to try things others fear to do. It is someone that people look up to and is idolized for their heroism, courage and their achievements.
Not much is known about spartacus’ early life but what is known is that spartacus was a sold as a slave and became a slave leader later on. Before he was a slave leader he had become a thracian gladiator. It is believed that he deserted the roman army, others think that he led bandit raids and was captured and sold into slavery.

They took refuge on a mountain, mount vesuvius. spartacus was believed to share leadership of the slave army along with two others, crixus and oenamus.in this paragraph there is a brief discription of what happened after spartacus escaped the training school. rome didn't think the slave army would be a challenge so they did not send first line defense troops and spartacus outmaneuvered them and defeated the first four forces they confronted. at the army's peak it was believed they had 90,000-120,000 men.This is important because it tells us that rome did not think the slave army could take on the second line of defense of the roman troops, but the slave army outmaneuvered and beat them proving rome wrong.
