Once a student is determined to be eligible for these types of services, they are reviewed annually and are given an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), which is a document which has the students set goals which should be achieved, the strategies that will be used and the different support or sources that will be used in order to help the student achieve these set goals (Teach, 2016). Parents need to be aware of the policies of this act, and how it can be used to better enhance their child’s education. More importantly, I was able to gain an insight on the different struggles that parents may face when their special needs student is a part of a general education classroom. There is an extra weight put on the teachers when having special needs students in a general education setting as well. This video identified just how much the role of parents is essential for students, and how important it is in order to have an effective collaboration effort with the teachers and the school.
