Introduction
The ancient Egyptians were a very advanced society and great architects but there are many questions surrounding the pyramids but something that stands out is the Sphinx. Why did the Egyptians build it, no one knows. Most Egyptologist believe that the Sphinx is supposed to represent Pharaoh Khafre or Pharaoh Djedefre. One of the first things you will notice when you first see the Sphinx is what happened to it’s nose. The Sphinx is used as a tourist attraction today but is supposed to represent someone but no one is completely sure who it is and what happened to it’s nose.
Why Was the Sphinx Built
No one knows exactly why the egyptians built the Sphinx but people come up with theories. Egyptologists believe it once was guarding a tomb or it was holding a tomb. According to Ducksters, “The Egyptians built sphinx statues to guard important areas such as tombs and temples.” Now it is too late to figure out why the Sphinx was built because of grave robbers. According to Ducksters,” Despite the Egyptian's efforts, nearly all of the pyramids were robbed of their treasures by 1000 B.C.” Probably no one will ever know why the Egyptians built the Sphinx.
