-Squires were made into knights using the ceremony dubbing.
-to be knighted there was a long process- first the night would bath as a symbol of purification, he would wear a white robe to symbolise purification, a red robe to represent nobility and black shoes to represent death.
-in the ceremony the shield and sword were placed on the altar and the knight kneeled in silent prayer for 10 hours. In the morning there is a long mass in which the duties of a knight were read out. The sword and shield are blessed by the priest and placed into the possession of a sponsor. The shield was then given to the lord who would conduct the knighting ceremony. The knight is presented to the lord and says his vows and swears an oath of allegiance to the lord. Than the dubbing process would take place.
-during the dubbing process the squire is presented with his sword and shield. Dubbing was a strike with the flat or side part of the sword on the knight. They were officially dubbed after the word “I dumb thee Sir knight” the celebration was finished with a music and feast. Many included other Knight, nibbles and women were present at the
