Task One:
Eric Roberts Walters was born on March 3, 1957 in Toronto, Ontario. Eric studied at York University and when he was finished from university, he started to teach at a public school in Streetsville, Ontario in 1993. His class were not good readers or writers, but the way Mr. Walters made them better was by writing his first book called Stand Your Ground. After writing this book, Mr. Walters’ class enjoyed reading this book and so did the community. “Some of the children broke free from the military ranks and came forward until there were twenty of them standing together directly across from where I sat” (Walters 54 paragraph 1). I feel very happy/sad at the same time. I feel happy because all the children from the military ranks came to greet Joshua and his group. I also feel sad because these kids don’t have parents and they had to live with other people that they didn’t know.
3. “You’re right,” Johnathan said. “If we don’t get them out and there are aftershocks the whole thing could collapse.” (Walters 155 paragraph 1). I feel scared because I feel like something is going to happen if they “don’t get them out” and I feel like another earthquake is going to happen which will kill more people.
4. “Look, I’ve been listening to the radio, and the roads are really not good…” (Walters 214 paragraph 1). I feel sad because Joshua because him and his group were going to go somewhere, but they couldn’t go because the roads were really bad after the earthquake hit.
5. “For a brief second I thought about telling him about Michelle, but there was no point.” (Walters 293 paragraph …show more content…
Task Six:
Type of conflict? Describe the conflict What factors/causes contribute to the conflict? Has the conflict been resolved? How?
Man vs. man The flight attendant told Joshua to sit back down but he said no. Joshua did not want to sit down because he wanted to see his first glimpse of Haiti. The conflict was resolved by Joshua listening to the flight attendant and sitting down.
Man vs. man When the earthquake struck, Joshua went to look for his dad instead of staying with the group. Joshua wanted to go looking for his dad because he dad meant everything to him. The conflict was resolved by the whole group going and looking for Joshua’s dad, and other people.
Man vs man Joshua called over all the mission kids for a meeting and only few came and the others just stood there. Joshua yelled at the kids because he needed them to listen to him. The other kids listened to Joshua after he yelled at them.
In my opinion, the best decision would be the first man vs man conflict because Joshua listened to the flight attendant after she told him to politely sit
