Protestant and Catholic Christianity, and Judaism are the main religions in America. Roman Catholicism was basically the tradition of religions with the settled Spanish or French (Bush 414). Immigrants also brought Lutherans from Germany and Orthodox from Eastern Europe, and Jews from Eastern Europe and Russia at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the twentieth centuries, though there were synagogues in America (Bush 414). “In view of the number of religious (and denominations and sects) that have prospered in this land, there is no denying that there has been religious freedom” (Eastman 487). It says that religious freedom exists in the U.S.A. even though the religious majorities have the influencing power in the U.S.A. In addition, it has been shown that people have tried to practice harmonious religion. Formation of piety and belief is surrounded by harmonious religion (Ahlstrom 1019). People recognize that physical health, and even economic well-being stream from human relationship with the cosmos by spiritual composure (Ahlstrom 1019). In the past, most American people were Christian, so other nationalities assumed that American people are all Christian. A news article states “Because the majority of Americans has historically identified as Christians, it 's no surprise that every U.S. president has also identified as Christian” (Bethany). It shows how many American people have thought that it is natural to be Christian in the U.S.A. There had not been someone who confessed that one is Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist among Supreme Court Justices, nor an atheist in the Court. There was only one who said oneself is an agnostic (Bethany). That means people avoid showing their religions in public places if they are not Christian. It is such a contradiction in the U.S.A., which declares religious freedom. However, there have been many small movements that ordinary people are trying to accept other religions. As a result, same-sex marriage has recently practiced in 2015 while many Christians have objected to legalizing same-sex marriage since the Bible mention has mentioned that being homosexual is a sin. It is also being argued still if the Bible really meant being homosexual should be prohibited. However, the important thing is the U.S.A. has symbolized as a nation of freedom, and the U.S.A has declared that everyone deserved one’s own freedom.
