I have substantial experience of line managing teaching and support staff; effective communication and organisation skills underpin day to day direction, as well as longer term strategic management. I have introduced Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes to enable the Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and teachers gain the necessary knowledge of SEN they were previously unfamiliar with. I have ensured clear systems are in place to enable the LSAs to record and monitor the progress of the pupils they teach/support. This has given LSAs the confidence to contribute in Annual Reviews and evaluate the effectiveness of the provision the SEN area offers by data analysis (using RAISE online, the Audit Continuum and our data heaven spreadsheets) and pupil/parent voice. I have trained and mentored them throughout this process. Carrying out Performance Management with both teachers and LSAs has allowed me to work closely with individuals, setting targets for improvement and allowing me to consider their individual needs. I work constructively with members of a team to achieve a common goal, and have the ability to problem solve and be creative. I have a passion for teaching and ensure that I keep up to date with my subject knowledge, teaching pedagogy and the current issues in education. To maintain being an outstanding practitioner I am of the opinion that I must also remain a learner. In past 3 years I have completed two Masters level courses and successfully passed BSL Level 1. I relish the prospect of undertaking another Master’s level qualification in Deaf Education. Working with a variety of stakeholders has allowed me to become an effective team worker and I am always willing to take advice from others to aid my own development, but also provide support and constructive feedback to others. I believe I have the necessary qualities to ensure that Deaf pupils are achieving ‘Outstanding’ outcomes.
