In most entertainment the woman takes a back seat to the leading male actor. Colin Stokes (2012) did an outstanding job summing up the influence movies can have on society. One thing that he addressed was the Bechdel test. In order for a movie to pass this test it must meet three criteria: First, it must have more than one female actress; second, the females must talk to one another; finally, when they do speak they must discuss something other than a man. From commercials to news coverage media focuses on the physical appearance of a woman. To gain the attention of men advertising objectifies women by showing them in revealing outfits. News focuses on the appearance of women instead of giving attention to their accomplishments (Newsom, 2011). From an interview with Sarah Palin (2010) where she was asked if she had breast implants to a headline about how old Hillary Clinton was looking (Newsom, 2011), media has lost sight of the important news.
