People began to use bronze, instead of stone, to make tools and weapons. Bronze allowed new tools and weapons to be created because bronze could be manipulated in ways that stone and bone couldn't. The new farming tools created with bronze made farming much simpler, leading to surpluses of food. As a result of said surpluses, there was an apparent growth in the human population.
